How Preschoolers Learn and How YOU Can Help!
“Children are natural learners. They learn best when they are happy and
when they have interesting things to do and safe places to do them.”
–Children and Youth Health, 2015
Chances are if you own a children’s dance studio, you love children! You love to see child learn, grow, and have fun.
You may be interested to know that there are a few easy things you can do to help your preschoolers maximize their learning opportunities. First, though, it’s important to understand how young children learn.
How Preschoolers Learn
Young children learn differently than older children and adults. Preschoolers learn about the world through their interactions with it. They learn from watching, listening, asking questions, experiencing new things, and practicing their new skills1.
Young children are also more likely to learn when they are interested and excited by what they are doing. Preschoolers learn when they are encouraged to play when and how they like, and with toys or activities of their choosing. This helps to keep kids engaged and feeling valued. Play is the number one way that kids learn!
Most importantly, children learn best when they feel loved, safe, and encouraged. Providing a warm and secure environment, and reminding children how special they are, will go a long way in helping them learn about the world around them.
